suspected someone was urinating in the stairwells

Respecting Shared Space an Update

I'm still on edge about what's been going on in our stairwells, but it's been a week now since we had that incident where my custodian lady asked me to review the camera footage. She suspected someone was urinating in the stairwells and, sadly, she was right. This morning I was talking to my maintenance guy about it and he's hoping we've seen the last of it.

Around noon, I was checking the cameras again, just to make sure everything's okay, and so far, so good. We haven't had any new incidents, which is a huge relief. I did post a picture of the person who was urinating in the stairwell, but I didn't show their face, I'm not trying to shame anyone, I just want to make it clear that this behavior's not okay.

By the time I was doing my rounds, I'd already had a few tenants stop me to talk about the post. Most of them are supportive, which is great - it's good to know that people care about keeping our building clean and respectful. I did have one tenant, who I'll call Mrs. Johnson, ask me if I knew who the person in the picture was, but I didn't tell her - I'm not trying to start any rumors or get anyone in trouble.

I was chatting with our custodian lady later, and she's still a bit upset about the whole thing, which I don't blame her for. She's the one who has to clean up after these incidents, and it's not fair to her. My maintenance guy's been helping out more, which is great, but we all need to be vigilant about keeping an eye on the stairwells.

This afternoon, I was thinking about what else we can do to prevent this kind of thing from happening again. I'm not sure what the answer is, but I'm hoping that by keeping the conversation going, we can come up with some solutions. I've been talking to some of the other superintendents in the area, seeing if they've had similar problems, and it's good to know we're not alone in this.

As I'm writing this, I'm still crossing my fingers that this will be the last of it. I don't want to have to deal with any more incidents like this, and I'm sure none of the tenants do either. We all just want to live in a clean, respectful building, and that's not too much to ask, right? I'll keep you updated on what happens next.

Scooters in the Hallway, A Growing Problem

Seven-thirty this morning and I'm already moving someone's e-scooter out of the middle of the hallway. Not leaning against the wall. Not tucked into a corner. Dead center, like whoever parked it there genuinely didn't consider that other people use this hallway too. It was a trip hazard waiting to happen — and in a building with elderly tenants and kids running around, that's not a small thing.

Caught on Camera: Respecting Shared Space

Dealing with unpleasant incidents in a subsidized housing setting. This morning I started reviewing some security footage our custodian had flagged. She's been dealing with a bad smell in the stairwells for days and suspected someone was urinating in there. I wasn't looking forward to watching it, but I had to see what was going on.
